Sarah Bromley Pottery

Having been a community midwife for eighteen years, Sarah changed careers and now works as a full-time studio potter. She is in her second year of the Otago Polytechnic Diploma of Ceramics.

Sarah loves to make functional pottery that is a delight to hold, touch, look at, and use. She uses different firing techniques to achieve the desired look for her work, including gas, combustion, salt, and soda firing. She enjoys the unpredictability of combustion-fired pottery, where the atmosphere plays a huge role in the outcome of her work. Every kiln opening is like Christmas to her! She hopes you find as much joy in her lovingly handmade ceramics as she does in creating each piece.

Sarah Bromley is an innovative potter who lives on the Kāpiti Coast. She is deeply connected to the natural world, and her love of nature is reflected in her work as a potter. Sarah’s home is located on a beautiful permaculture orchard, which provides her with endless inspiration for her creations.

In her pottery, Sarah enjoys using a variety of clays including wild clay sourced from the local land, and is experimenting with ash and rock glazes. She is also an advocate for sustainability and likes to use various firing techniques including wood firing in her pottery practice. Her style is always changing, but she is inspired by the forms and colours surrounding us in the natural world with hues tending towards the blues, greens and browns of nature.
